What the team has accomplished

iGEM FDR-HB Peru has been working on multiple projects, most notably a system that will enable the detection and removal of heavy metals such as Cadmium from fish and fishmeal produced by TASA. As well as working towards educating the local community about synthetic biology.

Schools

Our members attend Colegio Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Colegio Hiram Bingham, both of which have provided much support throughout the year.

Mentors

We are incredibly grateful for the support and guidance provided by Dr. Claudia Muñoz, Mr. David Kostial and Ms. Sasha Salters.

Alianza Cacao

Alianza Cacao has been a key factor in our project, more specifically, the national director, José Yturrios. Alianza Cacao is a Peruvian organization that works with thousands of local cacao farmers to provide them with some resources, promote the development of the industry, and help farmers maintain a sustainable business. They helped us better understand the cacao industry and suggested the best possible ways to implement our project in the real world, which helped us steer our project to meet their needs.

Washington Team

The Washington iGEM Team has continuously collaborated with our team as we established a meaningful collaboration. Our math modeling teams had a strong collaboration that consisted of active communication and sharing of skills and feedback. Given that the FDR-HB math modeling team was just beginning, the Washington team gave the initial knowledge for them to get started.

UPCH

We are also thankful for the competent cells donated by Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia, which allowed our project to move forward as we can begin testing.
